The Silver Key-comb by Tropic_meltdown transforms an everyday keychain into a striking piece of wearable glass art. At its center is a handcrafted heavy silver fume honeycomb implosion, suspended beneath a sleek galaxy sparkle black bail that gives the pendant a bold, modern finish. Compact enough for everyday carry, it showcases the same level of craftsmanship and detail found in full-sized collector pieces.
Created using pure silver fuming techniques, the implosion reveals an incredible spectrum of color within the clear glass. A vibrant purple-magenta core is surrounded by an electric blue halo, while warm pink and golden yellow tones emerge toward the base. As light passes through the glass, the colors shift and intensify, giving the piece a dynamic appearance that changes from every viewing angle.
The intricate honeycomb implosion creates remarkable depth, drawing the eye inward through layers of carefully worked glass. Thick borosilicate construction enhances both durability and optical clarity, allowing the rich fume work to display its full brilliance while standing up to everyday use. Every Silver Key-comb is individually handcrafted, making each one a unique expression of the artist's technique.
Whether clipped to your keys, backpack, or displayed as part of a glass collection, the Silver Key-comb is both a functional accessory and a miniature showcase of advanced lampworking. With its shimmering silver fume palette, precision implosion work, and signature galaxy sparkle bail, this handcrafted piece captures the unmistakable style and creativity of Tropic_meltdown.

I fell in love with glass in the 90’s, seeing the gold and silver fumed hand pipes in the counterculture. As much as i wanted to blow glass then, it wasn't time. I didn’t get to try my hand at flame working until life threw me a curveball with chronic autoimmune issues that stopped me in my tracks. My pain management issues led me back to cannabis and glass now in my 40’s. My wife and I realized that this was something i could pursue as my health sees fit and we set out on this path to build the studio!
My fascination with borosilicate flame working was fueled by the color spectrums and optics possible with the masterful application of gold and silver on clear glass. I have been striving and learning to make the most vivid beautiful work I can! I make whatever I'm inspired to at this point and there is always something new in the works!
Glass has felt like the culmination of every single interest/skill I've had over my 45 years of living. Im an artist and mechanic at heart and truly believe I've found my calling with this medium.
Favorites techniques: deep striking silver implosions, inside out gold and silver, retticello, fumacello, but mostly i just enjoy getting a big blob of glass ripping hot and making magic happen! I was born for this!!
