I moved to Eugene Oregon in 1994 after study biochemistry in Pennsylvania. A chance meeting at Oregon Country fair with a marble marker who told me about Wale Apparatus, a scientific supply company that sold lamp working kits. I ordered a torch kit and Homer Hoyt’s book. I successfully made my first glass pipes in August of 1995.

I took an 8 year break but returned in 2008. During this time the community and available knowledge had grown substantially. I started taking classes and making marbles. In 2010, I met Paul Stankard who challenged me to “express an idea in glass”. I spent the next 7 months learning how to sculpt and bring to life my first sculpture, a glass diorama of Prometheus Bound.

During this period, I stated taking classes at the local community college in 3d sculpture, figure drawing and art history.
In the summer of 2012, I made my first muppet functionals. The successful marketing of Jim Henson’s muppets are a huge factor in the popularity I obtained from making them. I am grateful that I could translate them into glass for people to enjoy.

In 2017, I started making farm animals. All of these designs come from my own head. I celebrate the difference in each one rather than adhering to the strict guidelines of a muppet. The colors, shapes, stories I can tell with the animals is limitless and more liberating.
