Michael Barnett is a glass artist based in Hot Springs, North Carolina, with more than 24 years of experience working in soft glass. He began his practice at Public Glass in San Francisco, where he developed a foundation in studio glass through extensive coursework and independent studio time.

He continued his training at Penland School of Craft in North Carolina, focusing on mosaic techniques, murrine production, cane pulling, and roll-ups, and furthered his studies with advanced soft glass and mosaic work through two separate programs at Corning, New York.

Barnett studied under Herman Leonhardt at Swamp Art Glass in Branchville, South Carolina, where he worked extensively in large-scale soft glass production and gained a deep understanding of studio operation, furnace management, and collaborative hot-shop practice. He later founded Ganesh Glass in Charleston, South Carolina, establishing his own soft glass studio practice.

He is also the founder of Goat House Glass, where he currently works and continues to develop his studio practice. For the past seven years, Barnett has focused on handcrafted glass pipes, bringing decades of soft glass experience into contemporary functional work. His pieces reflect a commitment to craftsmanship, material knowledge, and the evolving language of studio glass.
