{"title":"Soursilicate","description":"\u003cp\u003eI'm originally from upstate New York, near the catskill mountains, home of the headless horseman and Rip Van Winkle. Glass was always around me as a kid, my grandmother's paperweight collection, going to Corning to watch the glass makers, or to see the guy at the mall, making figurines and small objects. When I was older, going to Grateful Dead concerts, there would be these wizards with glass for sale. There was Bob Snodgrass, Cameron Tower, Dank K, Chemdog-Glass, Travis Wigger, Hugh Salkind, to name a few, that completely changed my view of glass, and my experience with cannabis. I was eventually drawn to the flame myself on New Years 2000 after seeing a handmade glass light bulb with a bouquet of flowers inside light up the room. It was then that my Glass journey began.\u003cbr\u003eI was lucky to go to GAS convention in 2000 and meet Paul Stankard and was blown away by his attention to detail and his amazing work. After a few years of learning from friends, books, magazines, and videos about flameworking\u003cbr\u003eI took a class with Lewis Wilson in Las Vegas at the Bead Expo. After moving north, from California to Oregon, I spent time at Eugene Glass School, and University of Oregon. I have taken many workshops with some of my personal favorite artists such as Bob Snodgrass, Mark Lammi, David Willis, Manuel Azumeca, Jason Lee and Marcel. Continuing my journey north, I was able to take workshops with Roger Parramore and Cesare Toffolo, having spent time at Pilchuck Glass School.\u003cbr\u003eA lot of my work consists of line work, montage, incalmo, and patterns. I also love working with clear glass. l've always been a visual person, vistas, optical illusions, anime, and Sci Fi being sources of inspiration. I love making ornaments, cups, marbles, beads, pipes, jars, etc.\u003cbr\u003eI hand make a lot of my own tubing consisting of either fumed silver and gold lines or solid color patterns made with borosilicate color rods and encased in clear borosilicate. This tubing is then broken down into sections then put back together to create the forms. My goals now are to continue to make glass art and to someday be able to teach these skills to future flameworkers and keep the tradition alive. Bob and several of his students have been among the most creative and influential mentors in my flameworking journey. His generosity in sharing stories, techniques, and years of glassmaking knowledge has been a continual source of inspiration.
